One question was raised when we learned about –kah in Malay.
At communicative level –kah is a marker of attention in the question.
-kah attached the inquiry focus to the word
Inikah Cik Halimah?:
the example in the lecture is asking whether the person is CIk Halimah.
Students then asked how about
Ini CIk Halimahkah? And what is the difference between the two.
Ini Cik Halimahkah is putting the focus on the name.
Hence it meant is this person by the name of Cik Halimah.
In other words, the confusion can be resolved by subscribing to
a type-token divide
Is this Cik Halimah may depend on the -kah to invoke a type (identity), or a token (name) in the enquiry.
In this+ kah Cik Halimah (Inikah CIk Halimah?;
the identity of the person is the question.
In this Cik Halimah+ kah (Ini Cik Halimahkah?);
the name of the person is the question.
