The word that caught my attention was hidangan
Hidang (to serve [food])
Hidang + an = a spread [of food]
In English spread is a verb and a noun
Spreading refers to fire, virus of a disease etc
A spread (as in a selection of food) seems so easily understood by anyone who speaks English.
Unlike Malay that follows from hidang (serving) to hidangan (a spread of food)
Little analytical questioning as to how a spread (of food) is derived from spread the verb.
Language learning is indeed a preference whereby if you like it you just live with it by heart very quickly, no questions asked.
