  1. Selamat Hari, Cikgu Sew. Is “kanal-kanak” singular or pural? You wrote it means “kid” which is singular, but I thought it means children in general, that means it is pural?

    • Kanak-kanak is kid

      Seorang kanak-kanak is a kid

Seorang kanak-kanak lelaki is a little boy

      Kanak-kanak perempuan = kid (female)

Sepuluh orang kanak-kanak = ten little girls.

Kanak-kanak on its own is a generic reference.

You may heard simplified versions of kanak-kanak because the gender or number are obvious to the speaker in the actual world.

There is a difference between reading a sentence and imposing imagination of sorts to the sentence.

In Malay we say Selamat ____ hari.
Selamat Hari is Good day which is an Australian concept not common in American or Singaporean English.

      Selamat pagi
      cikgu
